We all have heard of the famous ROM download site called Vimm's lair. Recently, Nintendo alongside the ESA filed a cease and desist against Vimm, and now over half of the games on the website are pretty much inaccessible. And if this is your first time reading on this topic, you're likely wondering "Why? I thought Nintendo was a good company!" Well the thing is, Nintendo has an online game renting service called "Nintendo Switch Online", which is a monthly subscription which allows users to play a handful of retro nintendo titles. Which on the surface, this appears to be perfectly fine, but remember, with a monthly service like this you never actually own the games you play, more as if you're actually just renting out their library. And if you haven't read my article about "The Crew" and how it got shut down, Nintendo has the right (whether we like it or not) to take down any and all games in their catalogue. Nintendo doesn't care about us, rather they only seek the money. That's why many amazing games that you simply can't buy anymore (unless you want to get it from a reseller), are being more and more inaccessible. Just to top it off, Nintendo LOVES throwing DMCAs at ROM hacks or fan creations, which destroys their community even further than they already have. And as much Nintendo hates game preservation, no CULTURE preservation, they will do anything in their power to make their shareholders happy. So Nintendo, if you're reading this, I hope your precious stocks collapse.

So what can we do about this? Rather than just give up, there are still other ways to download ROMs. A website that I have since switched to, is called Cdromance. Or, you can also host your own ROM sites. Backing up your game libraries and uploading them to your own web server ensures Nintendo can't ever find it (just make sure the ports are closed so Nintendo can't find it). In the end, we should have the right to play classic video games without the permission of a mega corporation. So I say, fight back in anyway you can.
